Both Sides Now

This is from the first Joni Mitchell album I had. The titled song is talking about Clouds. Thinking about seeing them from the ground and also from a plane, above. It is quite astonishing, the possibility of seeing both sides, and makes a metaphor of living and loving…. “I’ve looked at love from both sides now, from give and take”……..”Tears, and fears, and feeling proud. To say I love you, right out loud”… and of seeing life from both sides. From “up and down”, from “win and lose”…..”It’s life’s illusions I recall, I really don’t know life at all”……

As a child of the Prairies, we spend much time watching the clouds in the sky as they flow by, creating visual imaginations. Also the beauty of them, the fluffy friendliness, and the gift of rain on dry fields. They are an intricate part of Prairie life through all seasons and times.
